Therapy with Dr. Jackie Allt

Registered Clinical Psychologist: Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC)

Chartered (Consultant) Clinical Psychologist: British Psychological Society (BPS)

It has been a privilege to work as a consultant clinical psychologist for over 25 years across a wide range of mental health presentations, most recently as Chief Psychologist in the NHS.

I have delivered hundreds of hours of therapy and have significant experience of providing supervision, and training to the range of psychological professions. I been a clinical and academic tutor, supervisor, and examiner for the Salomons Clinical Psychology Doctorate and the CBT diploma programmes at Christchurch University.

I now specialise in working with high achieving individuals and leaders, often working in high pressure roles, who would benefit from work which goes beyond the scope of coaching.

Some of the reasons why you may seek therapy rather than coaching:

  • You need more support with understanding your reactions to situations, which may include managing your emotions and levels of distress
  • You would benefit from further exploration of past events within a psychological therapeutic framework, with more regular sessions, to support you with understanding your reactions and/or difficulties.
  • You would like more targeted psychological help with an area that is causing you distress, such as perfectionism, OCD, PTSD/trauma, social anxiety, burnout or depression.
  • You are living with a long-term health condition, or a newly diagnosed condition, and would like support with the impact of this on your mental health and your day to day living
  • You are experiencing distress but you may not know why and would like to get help understanding this.
  • You may be struggling with some of your relationships and/or your ability to perform your role at work

My Approach:

I have an integrative approach, and draw on a range of evidence-based theoretical models including schema, cognitive behavioural, brief psychodynamic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and systemic therapy. I am also EMDR trained to treat trauma presentations.

  • Taking the first step towards therapy is often the hardest. You may not know how to describe your problems, or you may feel you have a very clear idea.
  • My approach is always collaborative, and I would start by working with you to gain an understanding, or 'formulation', of your difficulties.
  • I am able to work with both individuals who would like a short-term focus to their work, as well as those who are looking for longer term work.
  • The first steps can often include getting coping strategies in place to reduce distress.

Therapy sessions usually take place on a weekly basis to ensure you get the support you need.

I am aware that taking the first step is often the hardest. I offer a free 20 min conversation to see if I am the right therapist for you.

Get in touch to arrange a free 20 mins call to see if we could be a good fit.
